The starting point of the Blind Dance research, was to create a vest-haptic-wearable device that could allow a blind person to experience dance.

The project offers an immersive dance experience using wireless communication.

With one device the dancer provides the input. A vest-elasticSensor-wearable

With a second device the public receives the output. A vest-haptic-wearable that emulate with motors the movements of the back of the dancer.

BYOB FESTIVAL

https://nerdlab.be/byob

We present the haptic vest in the frame of the "Bring your own beamer '18 " festival.

We decided to present our work without the wireless communication because the day before we had problems and not always was working.

We offered to people around the festival to wear and feel the haptic-vest.

Technically was easy understood what/ how the vest work.

We have positive and tickling smile reactions :)

People reacted in different ways, some felt that was too strong while for others the vibrations where too soft.

Emulating body sensations in another body is a sensitive subject. What one body perceive is the result of years of experiencing that body. There is a natural alienation and the body feel as noise and confusion when there is too much information ( speed ).

As conclusion, a vest like this should be wear for a blind person where the appliance of the project is specific to a subject and close to Design in the sense of problem solving. Or rather in an artistic context where the vest(s) could be used as a canvas to develop ideas-sensations-questioning the human body alienation.
